So who is As I Am?
As I Am is a popular brand of haircare that’s made especially for men and women with textured, curly and afro hair types. They also have a range made especially for babies and children too.
As I Am is a well known and renowned hair care brand amongst the afro hair care community with a handful of collections that are increasingly popular; including their Jamaican Black Castor Oil range and their Tea Tree Oil range specifically designed to combat dandruff and soothe a dry scalp with an active ingredient too.
Is As I Am made for 4C hair types?
In a nutshell, yes. As I Am is made for type 4 hair right through to light curls and type 2 hair types. Many people with looser curls use As I Am products in addition to people with kinks and tight curls with type 4 hair.
What’s also great to know is that As I Am make hair care products for a wife range of hair porosities too.
Their Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Long & Luxe ranges are great for thirstier high porosity hair, whilst their classic range, and most of their Tea Tree Oil range is suitable for all hair porosities including low, medium and high porosity hair types.
Is As I Am Black Owned?
No, As I Am is not black owned. As I Am was founded by Dr. Syed an indian born Chemist. Dr. Syed is also the same gentleman that also founded Avlon which is responsible for brands like Keracare and Affirm too.
Dr Syed dedicated much of his career to studying and understanding curlier and afro hair types; creating products specifically for afro hair.
So although As I Am isn’t black owned, it’s still a hugely popular brand (it constantly sells out for us!) and one that’s trusted by many men and women with curly and coily hair types.

Is As I Am free of parabens and silicones?
